Several gardens in Masterton can still show rhododendrons in bloom, an unusual occurrence so late in the year. The trustees of the Dunedin Savings Bank have made a grant of £lOOO to the Radium Fund and £5OO to the Soldiers’ Memorial.

William Darragh, licensee of the Stratford Club Hotel, and driver of the motor car which was’involved in a collision whereby Miss Gust of son lost her life, has been charged with manslaughter. The resident engineer of the Wairarapa Power Board (Mr C. J. Drewitt) showed an “Age” representative yesterday several insulators that have been broken recently. Their appearance indicates that some were used as targets for rifle shooting. Our Wellington correspondent states that the Chief Justice and Mr Justice Sim, constituting a Court of Appeal in Wellington, yesterday gave conditional leave to appeal to the Privy Council in the case of L. 11. TuMock and another v. Dalgety and Co., Ltd. Frank Arnold Hill, a middle-aged man, convicted at Wellington of indecently interfering with two girls in a picture show' was sentenced to 12 months’ hard labour. Tlie Judge said that, though there was no violence,, one never knew what might ensue. The public must be protected. The proposal that a team of New Zealand riflemen should visit England and compete at Bisley is not 'meeting with great support. To make the trip practicable the sum of £2OOO was required of the Government, but they granted only £lOOO. Individual members of the team would thus have to find the balance of the money. It is understood that several weH-known riflemen have declined the invitation to join the team.
