BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

MR. ISITT’S BILL. APPROVED AT WEST MEETING. The householders meeting .at the Masterton West school last night approved of the principle of the reading of the Bible in schools as suggested by a bill to be presented by Mr L. M. Isitt, M.P., to the next session of Parliament.

The chairman (Mr A. Donald) stated that the previous Bible in Schools League had gone out of existence, the stumbling block in its platform being the denominational right of entry, which was calculated to assist sectarianism rather than undermine it. However, the new body of men who had taken up the matter had suggested the introduction of the Bible to the schools with approved scriptural lessons and the optional singing of a hymn. The speaker commented that it was strange that the Bible was not allowed in the primary school up to the 6th standard, but as soon as these pupils went to a secondary school they had the Bible and prayers each day. What was good enough for the older children should be good enough for the infants.
