METEOROLOGICAL.
Present indications are for southerly winds, strong to gale, backing to easterlies northward of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, moderate to strong southeasterlies changing to northerlies shortly elsewhere; weather cold and changeable generally, with showers in northern and east'‘coast districts, conditions likely to improve soon; barometer rising in the north, a fall being due shortly in the south. Masterton.—Mr R. Brown reported at 9 a.m. yesterday:—Barograph 30.20. Shade temperature, maximum 50.2, minimum, 40.6, terrestrial 39.2, rain 33 points, bright sunshine 3hrs 15min. Solway.—Mr H. M. Boddington reports that 25 points of rain fell up to 9 a.m. yesterday.
