SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS. (Our Travelling Reporter.) Members of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society conducted a successful canvass for donations at Carterton on Friday and Saturday. Cricket and Bowls. The Featherston Cricket Club ha* decided to enter a team for the senior competition. Mr H. Buck has been elected club captain, Mr F .Dohnt secretary (with Mr J. B. Burt as assistant), and Mr J. W. Milner treasurer. Messrs F. Dohnt, J. B. Burt and W. A. Sandman were elected delegates to the Association. A full rink played the opening game of the season on the Carterton Bowling Club’s green on Saturday afternoon. The grass has a good soul and the green gives promise of playing well. Prize for Dairymen. A novel competition has been instituted by the official tester of the Carterton herd-testing scheme in order to ascertain what knowledge dairymen have of a cow’s quality without applying a test. He is offering a prize to the dairyman who can guess nearest to the three best and three worst cows in his herd. Obituary. The death took place at Greytown after a short illness on Friday of Mrs Emma Farley, wife of Mr James Farley, who is well known in stock circles throughout the Wairarapa. The deceased, who was 52 years of age, leaves a husband and son and daughter, who will have the sympathy of a ■wide circle of friends. The Churches. There "was some commotion in Greytown on Friday afternoon and evening, when the Presbyterian section of the community conducted a sale that augmented the manse fund by over £lOO. Large congregations attended at each of the special anniversary services conducted in the Carterton Methodist Church on Sunday by the Rev. F. J. Handy, of Masterton. Appropriate anthems were rendered by the choir under the baton of Mr O. W. Wilton. Gun Shooting. A 15-bird sweepstake was fired by the Carterton Gun Club on Saturday afternoon, when there was a good attendance. L. H. Smart won with 13 birds, A. Teal and S. Teal tied with 10 for second place, and Warrington and Hughes with 9 for third place.
