It is reported from Kimberk->’» South Africa, that Mr G. H. who was manager of the Springbolt Rugby team which visited New Zealand in 1921, has been killed in a motor accident. Signor Bruno Sarti, of the Sistine Choir Soloists, intends making his home in New Zealand. He left for Sydney last week and will later visit Italy, returning to New Zealand in 1924. His Excellency the Governor-Gener-al, as Most Worshipful Grand Master, attended Scinde Lodge at Napier last night, and was entertained at a banquet. Lord and Lady Jellicoe were present at the Napier Park races yesterday and will attend again to-day. The Right Rev. Dr. Sprott, Bishop of Wellington, will preach at St. Matthew’s, Masterton. on Sunday evening on the occasion of the harvest festival. While in Masterton His Lordship will be the guest of the Vicar, the Rev. W. Bullock, at the Vicarage. After being associated with the Stratford branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., lor the past 22 years, Mr A. W. Hewitt is retiring at the end of the present month. Mr Hewitt intends to take up harming but before doing so will pay a visit to the Old Country.
Mr C. H. Ho worth, formerly engineer to the Wanganui Harbour Board, and an artist of some distinction, has just returned after a 13 months’ absence from New Zealand. He left Wellington to take up an engineering post with the Government Railways of Jamaica, but owing to the climate was unable to live in the place.
At a meeting of the Lansdowne Church congregation it was unanimously decided to extend a call to the Rev. George King, late of Warrington, near Dunedin. Mr King joined the Main Body as a chaplain, and was at the landing on Gallipoli; he served right through the campaign on th© Peninsula until the evacuation, and afterwards returned to New Zealand. He also served as a chaplain in the Boer War. The Presbytery probably will meet on March 24 to arrange for the induction of the new minister.
