PUBLIC SPEAKING COURSE.
THE FIRST LECTURE.
There were 15 people present last night gt the inaugural lecture of the series arranged by the Y.M.C.A. with the object of popularising the art of public speaking. The proceedings took the form of a toast-list including the “Army and Navy,” “Parliament,” "Trade and Commerce,” and “The Park Committee.” All present spoke to one or other of the toasts.
The lecturer (Mr D. Hebenton) gave an interesting talk on public speaking, and in commenting on the speeches made he said he considered the standard was very good and should show a marked improvement with the next few lectures. The next lecture will take the form of toasts proposed at a wedding breakfast.
