UNION CO.’S ENTERPRISE.
THE NEW MOTOR SHIP.
(Rei-eived 7.35 p.m.) Bondon, Oct. 9.—Mr Archibald Hurd, in the “Daily Telegraph,” says the Union Steam Ship Company’s order represents the mojt daring advance ever undertaken since motor ships were first discussed. Such a huge internal combustion ship would, a decade ago, have been regarded as madness. The order speaks well for the Union Company’s motor engine makers’ enterprise, which will put the motor ships’ advantages to the supreme test.—(A. and N.Z.) (A cable received on September 30 was as follows: —A notable advance in marine engineering is claimed to be embodied in a vessal which the Fairfield Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., of Govan, have secured a contract to build for the Vancouver service for the Union Steam Ship Company. The vessel, which will be fitted with Deisel engines, will be 600 feet long, and have a speed of 18 knots).
