PLUNKET SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the local branch of the Royal N.Z. Society for the Health of Women and Children was held yesterday afternoon. There were present Mesdames J. M. Coradine (in the chair), C. A. Cameron, J. Caselberg, R. Judd, Wm. McKenzie, W. Wardell and W. B. Chennells.

Nurse Kummer’s report for the month of February was as follows: — Masterton: New cases, adults 21, babies 11; visits, to homes 120, visits to office 196. Out-stations : Carterton (visited twice), Featherston (visited once). New cases: Adults 8, babies 6. Office calls: Adults 23, babies 23. In the analysis of the new cases it was noteworthy that there was no illness amongst the breast-fed babies. Nurse Kummer gratefully acknowledges the receipt of very useful and large parcels of clothing from Mrs W. McKenzie, Mrs Ralph Beetham. and Mrs Stratton. Also a splendid lot of knitted vests and infants’ flannel garments from the Misses Jean Bowman, Jean McLeod, Effie Ellingham, and others of Solway College, and subscriptions from Mrs H. H. Daniell £l, Mesdames Gordon, Sexton, Birch and P. Nathan each ss. A letter was received from Mrs Watson regretting that she was unable to accede to the wishes of the committee to retain the position of president of the branch, but promising that her interest in the work will remain the same. All who know how much Mrs Watson has done for the success of the ; Masterton branch and for the welfare of the mothers and babies, will realise what a loss her retirement, even temporarily, from active service means. It is hoped that Dr. Truby King’s recent inspiring and enthusiastic addresses will rouse the interest of all who desire the health and well-being of the children of Masterton, and result in scores of new members being enrolled. The Society’s financial year closes on March 31, and the annual meeting (which ah subscribers are asked to attend, and at which new officers will be elected) will be held in May.
