SWIMMING.
MASTERTON D.H.S. SPORTS. The annual swimming sports of the girls of the Masterton District High School secondary and primary classes were held in. the ladies’ baths yesterday afternoon. There was a large crowd of interested spectators present, who showed their keen appreciation of the close and exciting contests. Mr® Blackman and Mrs H. A. Bagley made most capable judges and gave every satisfaction. There were very large entries in all the classes and many of the young swimmers displayed great promise. The judge® commented particularly on the work of Mary Hartley, a very young swimmer, who is likely to do exceedingly well. The races were supervised by Mrs I. Wilkinson, Miss A. Brown, Miss O. R. Sutherland and Miss L.
Duley. Trophies were awarded for all the races, and for the championship Mr W. H. Jackson donated a beautiful gold medal. At the conclusion of the sports Mr and Mrs W. H. Jackson presented the prizes, congratulating the winners on the skill they had displayed. Cheers were given for Mrs Jackson, Mr Jackson, the judges and the lady teachers. Consolation Race (open to all comers; prizes awarded by the judges).— E. Cowie 1, Olive Bagley 2, Rose Robinson 3. At the annual swimming sports of the Wellington Girl®’ College, Daphne Ella Warner secured third place in the school championship under 15 year®, and Sylvia Constance Ashton Warner second for swimming on the back for girls under 15 years. Both these girls belong to Te Whiti.
