Bcforo.tho Commission, Judge Bovun was further lengthily questioned regarding tho advances of Government money on mines in which he was interested. Judge Ewing pointed out that the witness had already admitted that the Administrator of tho Territory made advancos to himself and others. Judge Bovan denied a suggestion by Mr. Barro, the solicitor, that a representative of tho Mines Department was jockoyod into relaxing tho white labour regulations, and that ho would have lost his job it* ho had not given tho ruling he did. Judgo Bovan said ho know nothing about what tho Mines Department did. Mr. Barrett intorjectcd: "Perhaps Professor Gilruth looked after that I" Further drastic questioning rolated to Judge Bevan's administration oi justice as a Judge. Ono incident referred to was the quashing of a wholo jury panel for alleged irregularity. To Mr. Barrets question, "Is it not a' fact that no jury will convict anyone before you?" Judgo Bevan replied, "I have hoard that stated."
