SPEECHES BY CANDIDATES

(By Telegraph—.Press Association) DUNEDIN, Last Night. The Hon. J. T. Paul, the Labour candidate for Dunedin South, addressed a large meeting of electors this evening. He explained many of the planks of the Labour Par-y's platform, and asked for a trial for a Labour Government, as Reform and Liberal had both failed to give satisfaction to the people. In reply to an interjection, he said the Labour Party might noKget> into power this time, but it would be returned in such numbers as to show it was a constructive party, which understood the people's requirements. He also expressed the belief that next election wouM not take place three years heace, but perhaps one year hence. He was accorded a unaniiaoug voie of confidence.

He claimed that Labour was the only party definitely challenging the old order, with its corruptions, inequalities, injustice, commercial immorality and profiteering, He advocated free education from the kindergarten to tho university, more liberal pensions for widows, and., the acquisition by the State of flour 'mills, mines, and the ferry service. He condemned Sir Joseph Ward's financial proposals, and said he was convinced the repatriation polioy would have to be reviewed. A unanimous vote, of thanks and confidenco was carried.
