ANNUAL CONFERENCE. The meetings in connection with the C.E.M.S. Conference in Masterton were resumed yesterday. A celebration of the Hoiv Communion Was held in St. Matthew's Church at 7 a.m. The delegates met in conference at 10 a.m. The proceedings opened with an admirable address by the Rev. A. L. Hansell, M.A., vicar ,:4 Lower Hutt. on the subject of "Christian Brotherhood." He said there w,as so much to unite the people, family ties, school ties, national ties, yet there existed a strange lack of brotherhood. . He urged the acceptance of the example sect by St. Paul, dwelling upon those things which should unite us—the divinity of Uhrist. prayer, the Bible—an incentive to work for all. Bishop Gore used to say that every churchman should have a non-conformist friend, And in this way understand each other better. An interesting discussion followed. The Rev. J. Walker read a paper on "The Church and th© War" that created several new and inspiring thoughts. In the afternoon an interesting address was given by the secretary (Mr R. G. Howse) on ;'Mohammedism." The evening meeting was An open one and was largely attended. In the unavoidable absence, of the Bishop (Dr. Sprott), the Rev. W. J. Durrad lectured on the Melanesian Mission, giving some interesting details of the labour conducted in the islands. He closed by giving a brief outline of the prospects of the mission, which depended to a great extent on the support forthcoming.
