WAR SAVING.
The Christclnirch "Press" deplores the fact that neither the Government nor. the people of Now Zealand are hoarding up money for future eventualities. There is need of economy on the part of the Government. But what necessity is there for people in Now Zealand to observe- meal, loss days, to abstain from innocent amusement and recreation, lo deny themselves of motor rides, or to ciir-t-aii their expenditure on dross? If, by practising economy in either of those directions, they could bring tjie war to a more speedy termination or relievo the distress of their brethren in Iho Motherland, they would willingly make tho sacrifice. But (here, ts no possibility of such results being achieved. Consequently, while luxury and extravagance are morally wrong, the maintenance of trade and industry is essential to the well-being of the community, and the hoarding of money should not be encouraged.
