DESTRUCTIVE EARTHQUAKE
(Router's Telegram.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 30. Eighty per cent, of Guatemala city has been demolished by earthquakes. ' The earthquakes started on Christmas Day, and continued fqr two days. Thousands of people, have been rendered homeless. [Guatemala city is the capital of the Republic of Guatemala, the most northerly of the Republican States of Central America. The Republic contains several volcanic summits, and earthquakes are of frequent occurrence. INDESCRIBABLE PANIC. Received January 1, 9.30 a.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 31. Deep fissures have opened in the middle of Guatemala city. Theatres, asylums and gaols collapsed, many of the inmates being killed or injured. An indescribable panic prevails. The final shock literally wiped out the city.
