THE ALLIES ASSUME THE OFFENSIVE.

(Received Last Night, 9.10 o'clock.) PARIS, Sept. 1 (Morning). A Communique, summing up the situation, says:—"On the right flank, after partial checks', we have taken the offensive, and the enemy is retreating. In the centre w.e have had alternate successes and cll^ \ general battle is now again 111 progress. The morale of the Allies J s extremely good, despite the losses, which have been made good from the depots. The French resumed the offensive two days ago m the \ osges and Lorraine districts. This attack continues to be pressed, altlioup'h slowly. Every position occupied is immediately strengthened. Iho advance every dav is characterised by new local s uccesses.
