ATTITUDE OF TURKEY.
The attitude of Turkey at the present juncture is regarded with grave anxiety. The London "Daily Telegraph" says it is only a question of a few days, possibly hours, before the Ottoman Government declares war on Greece. This would be regarded by the Triple Entente as hostile, and Turkey would be embroiled in the general hostilities. It has been suspected for several weeks past that Germany Has been endeavouring to drag Turkey into the dispute, with a view to prejudicing Britain in India and Egypt. Meanwhile, the Balkan States are simmering with the fever for war, and a declaration by Turkey would probably mean a combination of Bulgaria, Roumania, Servia, and Grceco to smash the Ottoman Empire. On this occasion there would bo no mediation from Britain, and in Germany and Austria the Turks would be trusting in a rotten, a broken reed. Hie developments in regard to Turkey and the Balkan States will be awaited with profound interest.
