POSITION IN EUROPE.
The position in Europe is still hanging in the balance. The Germans, by their overwhelming force of numbers and their reckless disregard for life, have fought their way through to such an extent that they are almost within striking distance of Paris from the north. The London "Times," in urging the reinforcement of the sad-ly-decimated British troops, admits that the investment of Paris is not impossible. There are still strong hopes, however, of saving the capital. The dashing progress made by the Russian forces in East and West Prussia has thrown Germany into a state of alarm. If her advance upon Paris can be kept in check for a week or two longer, Berlin itself will be in danger. Already the Kaiser is filled with anxiety, for he has called up his last reserves, and a strong force has been hurried from Belgium to Prussia. The weakening of the force in France and the -strengthening of the Allies may be the turning point in the campaign. The scene of the most desperate hostilities will be transferred from France to Germany, where numbers will be met with still'-more overwhelming numbers.
