THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. A GOOD PROGRAMME. A crowded audience was present at the T.P. Electric Theatre on Saturday evening when the usual week-end change was presented, the new series being a very good one. The star film was "The Opium Smoker," a clever production that firmly gapped all beholders, -so intensely interesting was - it. An opium smoker, in love with the same young lady a< h ; s brother, evolves ignoble schemes by which he hopes to gain the mastery.' The story is full of detail, showing opium .smoking and its baneful effects. The machinations of the smoker, although very sensational and unbrotherly, but cleverly carried out, ended in failure. The victim ultimately succumbs to shock when he sees his brother, whom lie believes to be dead, walking about in full possession of all his faculties. The photography and screening was remarkably good. "The Raid of the Red Marauders" was a sensational story of the loyalty of a young and impetuous soldier. "Fanny's Conspiracy" was a comedy, full of the most ludicrous situations, all because a little th''n wife was tired of the appearance of a big fat hubby. "Bloomer's Toothache" and "The Star Boarder" were also good comedies. "Habits and Customs of the Arabs" was an ! interesting film, and there wtts the customarv topical, a -'Warwick Chronicle." The same series of pictures will be- screened to-night and also tomorrow evening.
TOWN HALL PICTURES. A largo and enthusiastic audience greeted'"the new programme at the Town Hall on Saturday night. The star film, "Where the Road Forks," is a, stirring drama in which a young woman has to choose between love and ambition. Whle she is pondering over the question the spirit of ambition appears to her and in a vision of the future, shows her appearing with unprecedented success in "Faust." Love in the person of a charming little boy shows her in another picture as a happy wife and mother. She is still undecided and bds ambition show her further into the future. Tins ambidoes, and the young wornm sees that her ambition holds.nothing else than financial success, whilst on the other hand love brings her happiness and contentedness in her old age. She chooses the latter. Other films were: "The Italian Navy of To-day," "Powers of the- Air," and "The Reward." Tito humorous element is well supported in "The Life Savers," and "Between the Showers." This fine programme will be repeated to-night mid to-morrow night., and should not be missed.
