MR T. M. WILFORD, M.P.
The announcement that Mr T. M. Wilford, M.P., is to give a political address in the Masterton Town Hall next week, has occasioned no little surprise among the electors of the district. Mr Wilford, when he returned from England a year or two ago, threw out hints that a national party was required in New Zealand, and he was supposed to hav.e an eye upon the leadership of such »a party,' Bo far, he has had his foot on the "soft pedal," and:the national parly has not• fructuatedi, "Whether he is coming to Masterton to lay the foundation of the party, or whether he is merely feeling the public pulse on behalf of Sir Joseph Ward, we are unable to sav. Mr Wilford is'a Very
entertaining speaker, and he will doubtless be g'-ven a cordial reception. But if ho is coming here to "boost" the discredited "Liberalism, '* well, he has our sympathy. Even Mr Hogg became tired of it. And when he is tired, the rest of the community might well be excused for seeking a respite.
