SCHOLARSHIPS.
It seems to us that the Wellington Education Board is pursuing a very arbitrary course in regard to its scholarships. A lad who had attended St. Patrick's College won a scholarship, and asked that lie be permitted to hold it at the college instead of at one of the secondary .schools under tlio Board. . This request was refused, and the lad will relinquish tho scholarship. Why the Board should refuse to allow scholarships to bo taken up in.St. Patrick's College, when its own secondary institutions are' over-crowded, we are at a loss to know. It looks as though the religious element were being introduced. If St. Patrick's College supplies secondary education up to the standard laid down by the Education Department—and nobody will dispute the fact that it does—children of the Roman faith should most certainly be permitted to hold their scholarships in that' institution. The same thing applies to any other well equipped institution.
