RAILWAY WORKERS.
INCREASES IN PAY. (Received Last Night, 8.55 o'clock.) SYDNEY, Sept. 22. Mr Justice Heydon, in the Arbitration Court, dismissed the Railway Commissioner's appeal against the Wages Board award increasing the drivers' and firemen's pay, and shortening their hours, involving an extra outlay of £60,000 per year. The judge held that the increased anxieties and responsibilities, together with the advance in the cost of living, entitled the men to the increase.
