The "Lancet." which has often tLown the shadow of medical disapproval on many of the little pleasures of life, has actually found something g<>;xl to say of tobacco. In a recent ib.sue it states that definite experiments have lately been made which show: that tobacco &moke raj idly destroys tho comma bacillus of cholera. Fortunately cholera is- not the only disease that is warded off by tobacco smoke, or smokers would have lr« fall back on-the old arguments n ta\our of the habit. Experiments, it is said, have proved that tobarv» .-moke destroys the bacilli of pneu.ionia. There i s some evidence that it is a preventive of some form s of ».asal catarrh, and in France pyridin one of the products of the combustun of tobacco "has been, employed in the form of inhalation in cases of ast'ima, omphysema, and angina pectoris."
