STRANGE INCIDENT

POUND NOTES FOR SIXTEEN SHILLINGS. (Received Last. Night, 9.50 o'clock.) SYDNEY. February 1. Two men with handbags accosted a resident of Mona Vale. One of them hurriedly extracted a bank of New Smith Wales pound note from his ; iag, and earnestly requested change, stating that he was willing to accept eighteen or sixteen shillings. The offer was declined. It was evident that the hag was chock-full of notes. It is believed that the incident has some bearing on the robbery which was cabled on December 30th.
