(From Our Own Correspondent.) Thursday. Mr George Armstrong, son of Mrs >P J. Armstrong, who recently sold, his interest .in Times," intends leaving shortly on a trip to England. Yeßterday one of the axle boxes of Mr T. J. Rathbone's timber dray took fire, caused by the wheel fitting to close on a new axle. The dray was drawn into Mr W. Stevens' coachbuilding establishment, where it received the required attention. The takings at the Catholic Bazaar yesterday afternoon and evening amounted to £6O. Two weddings will take place at St. Mark's Church in Tuesday afternoon next. Mrs Eagle -senr., Mrs and Miss Davison have returned home after a pleasant month's holiday at Roterua. Mr W. Steer, who was for some time baker for Mrs A. L. Whyte here, has gone into a similar business on his own account in Wellington. xbe Borough Council staff are at present engaged replacing Ihe old wooden culvert -near Mr Moore'a residence in Morton Road with concrete pipes. Considerable damage was done to a number of orchard crops in this district by the recent rain. At Belvedere one fruitgrower lost over a hundredweight of plums, due to their cracking beyond use. A number of farmers who were trying to economise by having th„ir grain crops threshed from the stook suffered rather badly through the recent rain. They were not able to get the machine along in time, and consequently had their crops in the stook ail through the wet weather. What they have saved in labour the rain has taken off the grain in market -value. A large parcy, principally ladies. left here last evening to essay the climb to Mount Holdsworth. This afternoon a number of the members of the local Rifle Volunteers put in class firing at the Belvedere range. Friday. Mr E. Goodin, of Park Road has a very promising crop of pumpkins and marrows. If the weather conditions keep tavourable there will be some that will take a lot of beating at the Horticultural Show. Miss Nellie Herdman, at preesnt a pupil teacher at the local school, leaves at the beginning of the month to enter the teachers' training college at Wellington. Captain and Mrs Adams, of the Salvation Army, left here this morning for their new sphere of last bour at Norsewood, Captain and MrI Rose, their successors, arrived by the afternoon train. The local Fire Brigade has decided to place an order with Hallenstein Bros., for a number of uniforms. It
