MASTERTON A. AND P. SHOW.

A SUBSTANTIAL PRIZE LIST. The programme of the Masterton A. and P. Show, to be held on February 16th and 17th, has been widelycirculated, enquiries for it having been received Imm all parts of the Dominion. That record entries will be received is beyond douht. as promises of liberal support from a number of prominent breeder?, who have not previouly exhibited here have been received, whilst in many instances those who have shown previously, will practically double 'heir entries for the Show next month. A glance through the programme shows that very liberal prize-money has been allots to every class, whilst fourteen valuable trophies, representing close on £2OO, have been donated for specified classes. As this will be the last Show held on ths old grounds, the committee are putting forth special efforts to make it the most successful in the history of the Association. Entirely satisfactory special train arrangements have been secured, and the acquisition of the new grounds will provide ample and secure paddocking accommodation for all stock, in splendid pastures and with good running water. As mentionedl above, the programme is rich with special trophies. Mr W. E. Bidwill has donated a twenty guinea challenge cup for the best hack, whilst Mr R. N. Barton has awarded another, valued at five guineas, for the best maiden hack. The Manawa Bowl (thirty guineas) goes to the winner of most points in fat cattle, the breeder aggregating the most points in purebred sheep taking Quibbell Bros.' Cup of ten guineas. The Welseley Sheep Shearing Machine Company have placed their cup, valued at twelve guineas, so that the winner of most points in English Leicesters secures it, whilst a twenty guinea cup goes to the exhibitor of the best Komney ram undor 21 months. The North Island Sheep Breeders' Association this year award a silver challenge shield for the best Romney ram, and Air James Stuckey gives £lO cash for the best Southdown ram under 21 months. Exhibitors in classes 222 a and 222b—two long wool cross ewes over, and two under 21 months—will find them endowed with a silver cup, valued at ten guineas, given by Messrs Thomas and Cook, of London, whilst the winner of the most points in freezing classes secures Messrs J. Fison and Company' 3 silver bowl valued at fifteen guineas. In addition to the liberal prize-money set apart for the Hunters' Leaping Competition, there is the Buick Memorial Cup, valued at twenty-five guineas. The winner of the bullock guessing competition takes a Singer sewing machine worth fifteen guineas. This is a truuly formidable list of special and valuable trophies, characteristic of a Royal Agricultural Show rather than that of the Masterton A. and P. Association. There are classes for every breed of cattle, and the exceptional season will enable those to he exhibited to come forward in the very best show condition. Saddle horse sections are bound to fill well, and a very large entry in sheep is already assured. Successful 'as previous Shows have been, that of 1909 should, if weather conditions are favourable, stand right out on its own as the best of the long series.
