The House of Representatives are discussing the timber duties. Mr Thomas (New South Wales) moved an amendment that Oregon and New Zealand pine should be admitted free. The discus: ion is proceeding. * INCREASED DUTY ON ROOF SLATES. QUARRYOWNERS PROTEST. Received December 6, 1 a.m. LONDON, December 5. All the North Wales quarryowners have petitioned Mr Lloyd George, President of the Board of Trade, asking his intervention with the Commonwealth Government in regard to the proposed increase in the duty on rjof slates.
