FIRES.

SEVERAL BUILDINGS TOTALLY DESTROYED. BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. MARTON, December 4. The second big fire within the last month broke out in Marton, about 2 o'clock, to-day, totally destroying the shops of J. M. Nkols, refreshment rooms and bakehouse; B. G. Goebel, fruiterer and produce merchant; J. Milligan, crockery and ironmongery and Max Bornhold, jeweller's shop and dwelling. The water supply Had been cut off temporarily, and when the brigade got to work, Nicols' building, where the fire started, was in a mass of flames. The brigade worked splendidly, and saved several of the adjoining buildings. The insurances are as follows : Nicols' stock, £250 in the Alliance office; shop owned by Mrs Nicol, anr., £3OO in the Liverpool, London and Globe office; Goebel's stock, £SO in the New Zealand office; shop by A. H. Sutcliffe, £3OO in the Liverpool, London and Globe office; Milligan's stock, £250, in the Commercial Union; shop owned by A. H. Sutcliffe, £SOO in the Liverpool, London and Globe office; Bornhold's stock and furniture, £530, in the State office; shop and dwelling, £4OO, in the New Zealand office. JJY TKIjKHKAI'H—I'KKSS ASSOCIATION. NAPIER, December 4. A fire broke out about 9.30, this evening, in the upstairs portion uf , the shop of J. M. Phillips, confec- I tioner, in Hastings street. The fire had a pood hold when discovered, and; Phillips' place was gutted, and of his furniture and stock very little was saved. Rice (confectioner), 'Prebble (fruiterer) and Hannah and Co. (boot < importers), all had their stocks damaged by water, while the upper portion of Rice's shop was also gutted. Phillips' furniture, stock and shop fittings, etc., were insured for £4OO, and his household furniture for £IOO, but his loss will be about £7OO over that amount.
