A SERIOUS CHARGE.

PALMERSTON N., Nov. 7.
A married woman, named iSnsan Cole, was arrested at Palmeraton North, on Tuesday, afternoon, on a charge of having, on or about 'he month of June last, at FalnuJiston North, used certain instruments Monghan, a married woman, with intent to procure abortion. Accused was before tbe Police Court, yesterday, morning, and, on the application of the police, she was remanded for eight days. The police stated that the wojian operated upon was between life and death, and had, in fact, been given up by a doctor. Application by accused's counsel for bail was refused. The woman, Agnes Monghan, upon whom an alleged illegal operation was performed in June last, died in a private nursing home, whGre she has baen lying for tbe last few days, to-night, at 8.15 o'clock. The deceased was about 26 years of age. She was married,, it is alleged, on Monday last. The woman's depositions were taken ou Monday when there appeared little hope of her recovery. The deceased's parents, it ip believed, live at Taihape.
