MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

WORKS COMMITTEE. The ordinary meeting or the Masterton Borough Works Committee was held last evening. Or Feist occupied the chair, and there were also present—Ors J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, F„ X W. Temple, T. G. Hoar, E. G. Eton, J. CJ. Ewington, and W. Morris. The Town Clerk was instructed to apply for a further £I,OOO out of the £25,000 loan for the, purpose of laying gas mains.

A letter was rooeived from the North Wairarapa Benevolent Trustees asking the Council to supply the Renall Solway Home with two tons of ooke for the nse of the old men in the Home. The matter was held over until next meeting for information as to how much coke had been given to the Kenall-Solway Home.

Mr W. E. Cullen wrote offering bis services as overseer, as he understood that the Council hnd a great amount of work in hand that would require the employment of an overseer. The Chairman stated that there were no works suitable at the present time over which Mr Ouilen oould aot aa overseer. It was decided to hold the letter over until suitable works were in hand, and then instruct the Engineer to employ Mr Cullen. It was decided to sell the pieoe of land adjacent to the Writfloy Street extension by publio auction. A price of £SO was put on the land. A sub committee appointed to consider the matter, recommended that the drainage of Beatley Street be carried to the Waipoua River. The recommendation was adopted. " The Gas Manager was instructed to submit a report ia conneotiou with extending the gas mains to Gaorge Street andfthe end of Villa Street. Accounts amounting to £2,138 were passed for payment.
