The first acceptance for the New Zealand Cup resulted in 36 horses being left in. . This number is larger than generally expected considering the class of the entrants. Of those handioapped at over Bst only two are left in, Boomerang Bst 131b and Paritutu, 8s 51b. The 7st division is represented by 14, while there are still 20 in the 6st lot. Ihe three Wairarapa horses, Letherin, Submarine and La Torpedo, are among those accepted for, and it is -quite probable that two of the three may be among the starters on November 3rd. Letherin is sure to be benefited by his run in the Crofton Handicap at Marton last week; Submarine is doing fair work on the tracks at OpaKi, while La Torpedo is galloping well at Tanherenikau. Last year sportsmen had a difficulty in selaoting the most likely candidate in Mr G. G. Stead's stable for the big race, and this year the same applies to the Hon. J. D. Ormond's horses, of which Zimmerman and Wirral are still in. During the next few weeks a number of the candidates will be running at the spring fixtures, and a better idea will then be gained of their .New Zealand Gap prospects. Wairarapa will probably be represented at the Rangitikei meeting by Moloch, Uam Var, and Sweet Lethe. The latter is a full sister to Black Oil, •and is said to be speedy op to five iJurlong'?. Mc H. McManaway's Mahaki colt,

Mahuta, is to be turoed out for an extended ape)]. This colt showed good form in bis training work up to a couple cf months ago, when he went wrong. It has been deemed advisable not to persevere with his training for a time, so as to enable bim to thoroughly recover. Tbe programme for the Masteiton Racing Club's spring meeting should attraot record entries. The increase of stakes has teeu well d)vided among the various events. Hacks have been specially catered for with no less than twelve races, and the nomination for these are sure to be very numerous. The stakes for the open events—Cup £175, Publican's Handicap £l2O, President's Handicap and Stewards* Handicap £loo—should bo satinfactory to | owners, and Hiore is every reason to expect that the meeting will be one ot the best yet held at Opaki. Solution's win iu the Rawson Stakes fit tho Tattersall's Club meeting, Sydney, on Saturday, goes to prove thut the Soulfc mare quickly got into loin) on "tho other side." I'o carry Sst 131b and run nine furlongs in lmin 54seo shows that she has only to retuia her form to, be very dangerous in the Metropolitan Handicap, for which she is a strong favourite. Capulet, who wag s'ld by Mr S. W. Tatbam to Mr W. Atwood, of Feildine, at the last. Masterton Racing Club's meeting, proved ' himself a moet capable hurdler at the Marlon meeting, where he won the Hurdle Handicap, iu bis first attempt in public over sticks. His party are reported to have made a tig win over the race. Capulet was bred by Mr James Macara, of Masterton, whose horses generally piovc good purchases to their uwuers, this having Been amply proved iu connection with the succeseps of Letberin, Oapuler, Montague, Duloinea, Rifle Maid and Greensleeves.
