MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

_—+ FINANCE COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Finance Committee was held yesterday morning. There were present—Ore Welch (ohairman), Cook-burn-Hood, Morris, Harris, Guild, and Holmes Warren. The Treasurer reported as follows: —Bank General Account, dr., £869 2s lOd; Local Bodies Loan Aoooant, or., £1,243 Is; Accounts or. balance, £272 os2d; receipts for the month, £692 16s lOd. it was decided to pay the returning officer the usual fee for services rendered during the taking of the poll in connection with the proposal to adopt the system of rating on the unimproved value iu the Gouniy. The Clerk was directed to write to Mr O. B. Pharazyn and explain to him the position with regard to the proposal to close the road through Morrison's Farm at Opaki, and to make him an offer of £3O for a road through his land to oonneot the Opaki District Road with Dreyerton, on the understanding that the persons interested in the closing of the road through Morrison's land agree among themselves to pay the cost of dosing the same. It was decided that the "guarantors for the costs of taking the original polls in oonneotion with the proposed Opaki water supply and Lanst!oWDe high-pressure water service schemes, be oalled upon to pay their respective shares of the expenses incurred by the Council. Accounts amounting to £1,307 Is lid were passed for payment.

COUNCIL MEETING. The mouthly meeting of the Council was held yesterday afternoon. There were present—Crs OookburnHood (chairman?, W. J. Welch, W. Harris, J. Morris, junr., H. Toogood, D. Guild, Holmes Warren and 0. Rebbell. Messrs Godingb Bros., of Alfredton, wrote applying for the renewal of their slaughtering license. The npplination was granted. Mr Frank Smith, of Alfredton, wrote applying for permission to lay a'tram way along the Flnt Bush Road to Alfredton as far as the old school witn the right to cross the road in two or three places. The Council directed that the application he advertised, this step being necessary before the application oould be dealt with. Di Makgill, Distriot Health Officer, wrote asking the Counoil to have certain sanitary improvements carried out on certain premises at Lansdowne. It was decided to comply with the request. Mr J. W. Mcßae, Stronvar, wrote drawing the Council's attention to the urgent necessity of strengthening the bridge over the creek at tin flaxmill at Stronvar. The matter was left in the hands of the Engineer and the Councillor for the riding to deal with. Mr T. P. Lett wrote asking the Council's permission to ereofc a telephone wire along the road between the Wangaehu Bridge and the top of the Otahuao Hill. The application was granted on the usual conditions. The Treasury advised the remittance of the sum of £2l 13s Id, being hypothecated thirds due to the Council.
