Local Collection to be Made. At the request of ilr Bone, secretary of St. John Ambulance Association, tin local Red Cross branch and the ladies of the ambulance class have, with the approval of his Worship the Mayor and Patriotic executive, decided to tab' up a street collection and make a h_iu.se to house canvas on behalf of th« French Red Cross on Thursday, 7th September. When it is remembered that fighting in France and Flanders has been going on incessantly since August, 1914, it will readily be imagined how great has been tho strain on the French people in p<ovidiug succor for their wounded. The French lied Cross is doing a grea*. work. It needs help very badly, and it is to be hoped that the effort to be made on Thursday next will meet with a generous response.
