A Dastardly Proceeding

LAWLESS ELEMENT PROMINENT AT PRIME MINISTER'S MEETING, At the Prime Minister's meeting at Ponsonby, !■ Auckland, on Monday night the lawless element in that constituency was guilty of a most reprehensible conduct. After Mr Massoy's address had proceeded for an hour it was found that the engine running the lighting had been tampered with by the removal of the oil lubricator, with the result, that the building was becoming filled with smoke. Mr liassey on being informed of what had taken place, informed his audience that ihey would have to leave and' immediately there was a Jiurried scramble lor the exits. The danger of a panic -was only averted by Mr, Massey assuring the people that there was no> danger beyond the loss of the lights,, and the building was cleared in an. orderly manner. Outside there was a scene of wild excitement and demonstrations were made against the Prime Minister and' Mr Bradney, the Government candidate. The latter- ancl/ his wile and elder daughter got away safely, but hearing that a young woman had fainted, in the crowd, Mr Bradney returned to find it was his younger daughter who was trampled upon by the crowd. On being rescued she was taken to the Club Pot-el ■ where she was restored' to coqsci'fiugneaß.
