THE EARLY RISING MAID.
Au example of early rising has just occurred in Kingscliffe, in Northamptonshire, whicE constitutes a challenge to the matutinal world. A prominent resident and his wife were aroused from sleep at midnight by a noise in the kitchen. Downstairs the man crept presently, revolver in hand, and discovered —his own kitchenmaid blackleading the ' ,grat». "What are you doing up at mid>night?" said he. "Please sir," said the maid, "I woke up and, of course, as soon as I woke up I got up and started work." "Why didn't you look at the clock?" "Oh, sir, I didn't need to look at clocks. When I wake up, of oourse I always get up at once." The httl« maid -was quite sorry to be s«nt back t/> bed again.
