THE SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE.

-It has been predicted that the gr'\atost lighting organisation yet formed in the Dominion is tho New Zealand Sports Protection League—a fedcration of sportsmen followers and supporters of sport, the policy and 111-1:1-nitiido of which must appeal to even this dullest imagination. In the torefront of the Leaguo is a Board of Control, consisting of Sir George Clifford, lion. Dr Collins, M.L.C., Messrs H. D. 8011, K. 0.. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., and Mr .T. H. I!. Coates, gentlemen who each have made their marks in their respective callings and whose names stand for moderation and justice. It is not difficult to conceive the influence the league is going to exercise in the near future. Vov years past the Liberal .minded section of the community have lioen protesting individually against the extreme aggression because they knew and felt that if allowed to continue to work in their own wav without opposition the extremists would have tho 'majority act according to their desires. The comfort is that the Sports Protection League is- rapidiy becoming a; powerful organisation and will ho able to checkmate effectively any further move of the simall but ■misguided band of enthusiasts. A meeting to consider the matter of forming a branch of the League in Lawrence will be held in the Town Hall Chamber, on l'Yidav (..chit ; August, 30th, at 8 p.m., when the general secretary (Mr A. A. I'aape) will give ar.i address on the aims and policy of the League. His Worship the Mayor, Mr J. ißobcrtson, will preside.
