WAITAHUNA BOWLING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the above club was held on Monday, sth August, when there was a good_alteiidance of members.

■Report and Balance-Sheet. The outgoing committee submitted the following report . a nd balance-sheet in connection with tne past season : " From a bowler's point of view this has been rather a quiet year. Tho season proved an exceptionally wet one, and the green did not. quite come up to our early expectations. In spite of those drawbacks some very pleasant afternoons and evenings were spent on the green, and some wellcontested games were played. '" One very pleasing featuro on the green was tho admirable spirit of companionship that existed among tlho members. This spirit of goodfellowsliip seeims to be a characteristic feature of the bowling fraternity, for wherever a bowler goes i amongst other bowlers he is ■ sure to meet with a warm welcome, and an invitation to have a " roll " on the green, and the better the player, the more cordial is the 'Welcome. During tho 'year only one committee meeting was held, and this was well attended by the members, only one committeeman being absent. At that meeting the president and the secretary were, authorised to procure n lawn-mower of the best quality. A Green's Silens Messor mower was procured, and although tho lower plate was broken when the mower arrived it has done the work required during the season, thanks to the skill and energy, oi Jiv Ellis.

Messrs Briscoe ami So. have undertaken to renew the liroken plat", and we hope to begin the ensuing season with prnetier.lly ;l new mower. A set of twenty-two boxes was purchased from the Duneclm Club, and lh.se were over-hauled by -Mr W. Jlelvenzie ana put in order in the shed which was purchased from the secretary and removed in one piece to the Club's ground. Thi-j shed lias answered all that was required of it, and will, doubtless, continue to do so until the Club is in a position to erect a more imposing and convenient building. " 'L'he Club played three matchesone with Hilton on Milton green, and two with Lawrence, one on Lawrence green ami the other on Waitahuna green, but suffered defeal on all the three occasions. As Jacob Faithful used to say, " What's done can't be helped, better luck next tinw," and so say all of us. " The Club suffered a loss 0 i another kind also a few months ago, when our President was transferred' to the North Island. His business engagements did not allow him to .be often with us on tho green, but being an enthusiast he did much to help the club in otter ways. "Ou the Ist of 'November, 1911, the green was opened, when eighteen players took part. As usual tho ladies rose to the occasion and 'dispensed afternoon tea and cakes.

" It is to be hoped that dur'uvr the coming season we shall !|je favoured with more congenial weather than last season, and that the same spirit of goodfeliowship ma v exist among llr members whom we hope to see increased at no very distant date. Although bowling was somewhat tardy in making its appearance in Waitahuna, now that it is her.- it ha; come to stay.

The following ofliccrs wen; elected for the season :—President, Mr P. Whelan ; vice-president, Mr I'. L. Brown; secretary, Mr I'utric'-' . treasurer, Mr R. Murray. Geaeril.

Tho secretary was enna. ■'.'-rul to procure all stationery, &c, that is necessary.

H was decided to have a \voiVni._' bee oh Wednesday, 7th iijst., to put the ground in order. Ouo new member was enrolled and several mOM are expected to follow. It was decided to make a levy of 5s per member towards payment of a caretaker for the green during the playing season.
