SHORTAGE OF COAL.

POSITION IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, August, 5. The coal shortage in Wellington is the worst for many voars. The run on the State supplies during! the past 'fortnight has been phenomenal. For weeks tho local depot lias been trying to overtake its orders, but without success. One thousand retail orders >vero filled last wook. Jvo more orders will bo received for 10 days, and some of last week's orders will not be filled for three weeks. Some YV'cstport >and Newcastle coal Iras coma to hand, but not nearly enough for household requirements. On Monday week (says the Post) there was a record rush of orders at the [Slate coal office, where three clerks were, engaged for the greater part of the day, i"52 orders being taken.
