THE LAWRENCE-ROXBURGH RAILWAY LEAGUE.

. ROXBURGH BRANCH. A meeting oi the above branch was held in the Athenaeum Hall, 'Roxburgh, on Saturday night, when there was a very good attendance of members; Mr <J. Bennetts (chairman) presided. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read from the member (R. Scott, Esjq,), Minister oi Public Workg (W. D. S. Mac Donald, Esq.), lUnder Secretary (H. J. H. Blow, Esq.), A. Moritzson, Esq., and the interim secretary of the Dunedin Expansion League (J. L. Stewart Wright, Fisq.), with regard to the speedy prosecution of the LawrenceRoxburgh line, &c. The latter enclosed a copy of a resolution passed by the County Development Committee of the League as follows :—" That the Government be urged to have the survey of the Lawrenee J Rox!burgli Railway completed to Beaumont, and sufficient men put on to complete the line on the Beaumont end, so that by the time the Big Hill tunnel is tinished the line will be completed and available to Beaumont; and further, that the Government be urged to authorise the completion of the line to Roxburgh so that when the line reaches Beaumont the men may Ikretained on the work and the same pushed on with all haste." It was resolved that the secretary write to R. Scott, Esq., M.P., asking him to do ijjs utmost towards the completion of the work to Beaumont, and also for an authorisation for \tho line to Roxburgh, and that the Hons. Jas. 'Allen and Wm. Eraser be also written to with regard to same matter.

The secretary was instructed to convey the congratulations of this branch to tho Hon. Mr Mussoy and his colleagues on their elevation to Cajb&net rank and wishing thorn a successful tenure of office. It was (decided that the Dunedin branch of the Railway League and the Dunedin Expansion League ho written to congratulating them on their energy in pushing forward the extension of the line to Roxburgh.

It was resolved that the secretary commuuioate with tho Dunedin and Lawrence branches, and a.-.i tinmember (Mr Scott] ;l s to the advisability of sending delegates to Wellington to urge on tho Govennuont tho claims of this railway. The following motion was carried'. "That this branch of the league appreciate tho efforts of those members of tho Tuapeka County Council who endeavoured to have the road from Bruce County to Vincent County declared a main road, as it considers it advisable that it should be so, and it also recognises the efforts of its chairman (Mr Bennetts) in the matter."

It was decided that it be a suggestion to the Hon. Minister of Public Works that a lifilit line lie built, to Roxburgh, as it was understood the Government were contemplating the building of light lines. The Chairman said he was very pleased to sec a representative of tinMl. Bimger Mail present to report the meeting, as in tho past that matter had been neglected, and ;i hearty vote of thanks was passed to MY Rattray for his attendance.
