The Tuapeka Times. AND Goldfields Reporter & Advertiser "Measures, not Men." WEDNESDAY, 27th JULY, 1910. THE TEACHERS' SUPERANNUATION ACT.

A Btrong representation is about to be made to Parliament to amend the Teachera' Superannuation Act, and we feel sure that no reasonable objection to auch an amondmont can be made. At the passing of the .Vet the majority of teachers at once accepted its privileges. It is, howeviir, not surprising that there should have 'been a few who through financial disabilities. or misunderstanding, did not or could not commence to pay into the lund within the limits of time set by the Act. Under the prdKent clauses of the Act such teachnrs are for ever debarred from its privileges. They may be prepared to pay up all unrears, with interest; it matters not, tlio anbwot iB still the same : '' There is no provision in the Act..' We are persuaded that this ia a regrettable omission, and that it will bd speedily rectified. It would be curious indeed il an Act which allowed teachers of fifty ytars of age by contributing to the fund for [M'ili,qi« five years to retire on full allowance, at the same time resolutely refused its privileges to a young teacher who was prepared to pay into the fund for perhaps thirty years.
