TUAPEKA MINING AND PROSPECTING ASSOCIATION.

. Tvhe executive of the recently formed Association have not been idle. The secretary, Mr Winmill, has written to quite a number of. similar associations in various parts of the Dominion with a view to obtaining data on which to draw up rules for the guidance of the Association, but" so far his quest in this direction has not borne fruit. In some instances he has not even had the courtesy of a reply. He also wrote Mr James Allen, member for Bruce, 'in regard to the conditions ota which the Government hired its boring plant and the steps necessary to secure the services of Dr. Bell, the Government geologist. To this letter the following reply was received :

| Dear Sir, — I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your ' letter of 2nd April. I wo^ote to the Minister on April 3rd askilng for the information you desire, and I will forward his reply to you as soon as it i"s received. I hope yoiir Association will have a successful career and that it may lead to the development of the. mining industry in the district. Whatever assistance I can erive to .the Association iwill be very readily piven. JAMES ALLEN.

Under date April 14th Mr Allen again wrote :-•'* 1 have received a telegram from Bealey from the Minister of Mines, . as follows :—: — " I have just received your letter of the 3rd inst., asking that certain information be supplied to the Law- • rence Prospecting Association, and I have issued instructions for • your request to be complied with. • The question of inspection and report by Dr. Bell will receive consideration

with other similar applications now

'.'before the Department." lam hoping that he will be down and that I shall be able to interview him., and put your case before him. Whenever I can I shall be only too pleased to assist you."

The secretary of the Association reports that the membership tickets are going off freely. .One .member of the Committee returned his book a few days after issue with the cost of the whole of .the number of tickets (25) included in the book. ' The Inspector of Mines, Mr R. McIntosh, who was in the district tjie other day, informed the secretary that the Messrs McDonald Bros., who are tunnelling in search of a reef in Gabriels Gully "had received a subsidy from tihe Government in connection with the work they have so far carried out.
