Tbe usual fortnightly meeting of the Lawrence Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Monday evening ; presenL— His Worship the Mayor (Mr B. Bennet, M.H.E., Wellington, acknowledging receipt of resolution passed by the Invercargill Borough Council, re cheap money to local bodies, and stating that ib will receive his attention. — Received. From the clerk, Dunedin City Council, forwarding copy of city by-laws.— Received, INSPECTOR OF WORKS* REPORT, The Inspector of Works reported as follows : — I have the honor to report that the surfacemen have been engaged during the month in cuttiug down the side of Whitehaven-street fronting sections 11, 12, 13, and 14, block 5, a distance of five chains, and carting the material on to section 13, block 5, which was recencly purchased by the Council. The cost, of carting in tbe material was £12. The section now requires very little filling in to complete it. The holes in Sowerby-street from Harring-ton-street have been filled in with rough material from Blue Spur ; also holes in the Beaumont road. Five trucks of blue metal have arrived and are being distributed on the Beaumont road fronting block 44, GENERAL. Or M'latosh called attention to the nuisance caused by cattle straying through the streets, especially on last Saturday night and Sunday. He hoped the attention.- of the borough ranger would be called to the matter, — Tho Mayor- said he had been informed by the ranger that he had met with an accident which prevented him for some days past from exercising bis usual vigilance, but in the course of a few days he would be able to attend to bis duties again.
