SOUTH OTAGO CRICKET ASSOCIATION,

The annual mooting of the above Association was held in Balclutha on Friday night, when the Milton, Lovells Flat, Balclutha, Clinton, Waiwera, and Ktihiku Clubs were represented. The Lawrence Club wrote apologising for the absence of their delrgate through the short notice received. Mr Thompson (Clinton) occupied the ohair, and said hn was pleased to see co m&Dy clubs represented. He congratulated the Association on the results achieved, which were more than was expected when it was formed five years ago. The Association was now in a sound financial posit ioD, and he foresaw a successful future before oric^et in South Otßgo. Ten cluhs were now affiliated, and the forthcoming season promised to be ih,e most successful since the initiation of the Association. He congratulated the Lawrence Cricket Club on its having won the Bhield the second ynar in succession, but he hoped th;at the shield WoU(tf GODJQ tO the southern district of toe Association this season, He regretted that the attempt to foster junior cricket bad failed, but was quite aware of the difficulty country oluba had of keepiog a good first eleven together. Mr Thompson said he thought it would be an excellent idea if a central ground could be obtained — say at Balclutha— where a good pitch and outfield could be laid down, and he was sure it would be an inducement for other associations to send teams to meet their Association team. Perhaps the Association and some of the Balclutha sports might see fit to proffer some pecuniary aasistanoe to the Balclutha Club to that end.

The following gentlemen from this district were elected office-bearers : President, Mr Jaa. Allen. M.8.R. ; \ ice-Presidents, Messrs A. M. Eyes (Lawrence), A. M. Barnett (Waitahuna), and Dr Sutherland (Milton) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. B. Stewart (Balclutha) ; Match Committee, Bey. Canon Bichards (Lawrence), A. Buchanan (Balclutha, and W. Anderson (Waiwera).

It was resolved that all future meetings of the Association be held at 2 p.m. sharp on a Wednesday. The seoretary was instructed to purchase two bats, to be presented to the winners of the b&tting and bowling averages at the end of the season.

It was deoided that unless clubs immediately after each match send scores and analysis to the Association seoretary they be disqualified from participation in competition (or averages.

The seoretary was instructed to purchase a set of material for presentation to the runuers-iip in tbe shield contest.

If the Balolntha Club decide to form a good ground, it was decided that the Association give a donation, and that all matohes apart from inter-club matohes be played on that ground.

In the event of matohes not being played on the day appointed, the rules were altered to read that unless a date can be fixed within 14 days the team appearing on the ground within 14 days will be declared winnere.
