Wheat.— Business in the looal market has lately assumed a more settled aspect. Buyers, though free to purchase all lots offering, and on the spot, and are not displaying a great deal of anxiety to secure any outside lots in the meantime, but the idea prevails that further on an improvement in the demand is almost certain to set in. It is reported that it is' probable that the English wheat crop will be one of the smallest on record, and that the same remarks apply to other centres, and at present the only reason for present low prices at Mark Lane is the enormous shipments to hand during the last two months, bat that there is every reason to expect an early recovery ; consequently prices in the local market are likely to remain firm, which we repeat, say— for prime milling, 3s 8d to 3s 9d ; extra do, and fit for seed, 4s to 4s 3d ; medium to good, 3s 7d to 8s 8d ; inferior and broken to medium, 3s to 3s 6d (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms). Oats. — Buyers at the auction sales on Monday were not quite so eager to operate as on the previous week ; nevertheless, a very fair demand was experienced, and a considerable number of lots were disposed of «t prices nearly up to those obtaining last week. Quotations: For prime mailing, 2s 6d to 2s 9d— extra do a shade more ; medium to good, 2s 3d to 2s 6d ; inferior to medium, Is 9d to 2s (ex store, sacks extra, net). Grass Seeds. — Quotations : For best dressed' ryegrass seed, 3s 9d to 4s 3d ; extra prime, 4s 6d ; medium to good, 3s 3d to 3s 6d (ex store, sacks extra, net). Potatoes.— The market this week is less firm, buyers declining to operate at up to last week's top price, best Derwents only fetching 42s 6d to 47s 6d ; medium, 35s to 40s ; kidneys, slow sale, 37s 6d to 47s 6d (ex store, sacks weighed in, net). Chaff. — There being a fuller supply to hand this week last week's top price could be secured for only two trucks. All the rest offered could not be placed except at lower prices. Quotations : For best, 60j to 60s; extra prime, 67s 6d to 70s; medium to good, 45s to 563 j oaten straw chaff, 35s to 40s per ton (ex truck, sacks extra or "returned, net). Dairy Produce. — A very fair demand exists for good butter, and the price firm, prime salt butter, dairy made, f etching; 7|d to 8d ; medium to good, 4d to6|d ; North Island factory-made, 9d to lid; looal factory, Is to Is Id per lb.

Flax.— The market is quiet. Quotations : For medium to good, £13 10 ato £14 10s ; inferior to medium, £8 to £10 10s per ton (ex store).
