TUAPEKA POULTRY, CAGEBIRD, CAT & DOG SOCIETY.
A meeting of the committee of management of the above Society was held in the Volunteer Hall on Fridayevening. Present : Messrs Morris (President), Christie, Egglestoue, Urquhart, G. Jeffery, junr., Lawrence, Crooke, B. Hart, Nichols, Mills, and Potts (Secretary.) The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. SUBSCRIPTIONS AND DONATIONS, The President reported that the canvassers appointed at last meeting to collect subscriptions and donations had been very successful. The Society would be in a position this year to offer some very valuable special prizes. ALLOTTING THE SPECIAL PHIZES. It was resolved th v at the allotting of the special prizes be deferred till ihe entries in the various classes have been received. SKYLIGHTS FOR THE VOLUNTEER HALL. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Tuapeka Rifle company asking if they are willing to place four skylights in the roof of the hall, the Society offering to pay half the cost (not exceeding £6), such cost to be chargeable against the rent of the hall by the Society. THE SHEEP DOG TRIAL. It was resolved that the annual sheep dog trial, held under the auspices of the Society, be abandoned, owing to the lack of support accorded to it by the outside public. Several of the members expressed themselves in favour of the Society undertaking the management of a sheep dog trial provided the farmers and others interested would contribute more liberally to its support. GENERAL. Mr C. Stokes was appointed a member of the managing committee. Mr Urquahait was appointed custodian of exhibits at the annual show, to be held on the 14th of next month. Messis Brownlie, Easou, and Eobertson were requested to act as judges at the show. It was resolved to write to Mr Aitken, ot Dunedin, thanking him for the silver cup which he had donated to the Society ; also, that Mr Aitken's cup be awarded to the best game bird at the show. This was all the business.
