DUN 1 ? IN MARKETS— STOCK. &o. Bubssidk— Wbdnesdat

Fat Cattle. — Notwithstanding the block on the railway lines, on account of the floods, the market was over- supplied, no less than 269 head being yarded, and of this number we should aay quite 240 head were forced on the market by unfortunate sufferers by the flood on the Taieri plain. Several of the larger buyers were not operating this week, and as a consequence the sale was a dull one, and prices, as compared with last week's, from 15a to 20s per head lower, Beat bullocks £7 7s 6d to £9 ; ordinary, £6 to £7 ; small, £4 10s to £5 10s; best cows, £6 to £6 15s; ordinary, £4 to £5 10a ; old, £2 to £3 10s. — John Grindley (on behalf of the Farmers Agency Company, Limited), yarded 47 head, and sold as follows :—: — For Messrs H. A. Wilson (Langlea), 8 bullocks at. £0 7s 6d to £6, 5 heifers at £4 to £4256 d ; for Mr Alexander Douglas (East, Taieri), 25 bullocks at £6 15a to £8 ss, 1 cow afc £4 2s 6d ; for Messrs Walsh Bros. (Otakia), 3 cows at £4 17s 6d ; for Mr W. A. Todd (Mosgiel;, 5 heifers (small) at £3 10s.

Fat Sheep only 1 069 penned, and these included a few pens of very prime crossbred wethers (heavy weights). In other respects the quality of the sheep forward waß only medium. For best pens there was good competition at slightly better values than were ruling a week ago, but other quailities show no change. Best cross bred wethers sold at 14s to 103 3d ; ordinary do do, 12s 6d to 133 6d ; light do do, 10s 6d to 123 ; best crossbred ewes, 13s to 14s ; ordinary do do, lls to 12s ; light do do, 8s 6d to 10a.— The Mutual Agency Co. sold 321 : For a northernclient, 14 mixed lightweight crossbreds to 13a 9d, 14 halfbred Downs at 103 6d, 16 merino wethers at 78 9d ; for Messrs Dickson Bros. Andrews (Grreeu Island), 23 crossbred wethers at 13s 3d and 13s 6d, 16 at 12s 3d ; for Messrs Dick and Ferguson (SandymountJ, 85 lightweight ewes at quotations. Fat Lambs. — 399 penned, aud sold at from 8s to 10s 6d each. Pigs. — Only 30 forward, including a few pens of nice bacon pigs, which were sold at from 343 to 383. Store Cattle. — Business under this heading has been fairly good of late, but it remaiua to be seen what effect the floods of thia week will have upon the market. Store Sheep. — We have never known tbe demand for breeding ewes, both crossbred and merino, to be so great as it is at the present time. The number offering falls far short of the requirements of Diirchasers. ' » Wool. — The news from Home is very disconraging, and we look forward to easier prices and less competition at Thursd-.y's sale. Sbeepskins. — At Tuesday's auction sales prices compared with last week show a decline of fully o per cent, for wool skins, and 10 per cent for pelts. Hides. — Quotations remain unchanged. Tallow. — Very little has come forward this week, but as the supply, so far as passes through the hands of the agents, does not regulate prices, we cannot report any increase in values.
