(From, our own Correspondent.) CONNUBIAL. Dunedin, February 10th. The Rev. E. Spurgeon, of Auckland, son of Rev. 0. H. Spurgeon, was married to-day at the Baptist Church, Dunedin, to Miss Lilla Rutherford, daughter of Mr Gideon Rutherford, late of Victoria. There was a large and fashionable attendance. DRUNK WITH FIREARMS. A foreigner named Lenvan was charged to-day with being found drunk with firearms. The Bench took a lenient view, and he was fined only for being drunk. THB MIDLAND RAILWAY. At Wellington to-day, the R.M. gave judgment against the Island Bay Racing Club in the case brought against them by Nathan, a bookmaker, who had invested £30 on Marlborough, which did not win. Nathan had been warned off for laying totalisator prices, and when he returned he put £30 on the machine, and then demanded it back. THE OTAGO UNIVERSITY. A despatch has been received intimating that the Secretary for the Colonies has been unable to recommend her Majesty to grant the prayer of a petition to allow the Ofcago University to grant degrees. EXTORTING MONEY. A man named Wm. Johnston was committed for trial at Christchurch to-day, for attempting to extort money from a Mrs Morletg by means of threatening letters.
