Invbrcargill, January 19th. The late passing showers, although very slight, have improved the crops on the table-lands very much. The weather is igainvery Hot.' The "Southland Times" is very indignant at Sir Julius Vogel's latest jobviz., Henry Driver's appointment as chief of the staff in the Dunedin Government Life Insurance Department at a salary of £1,000 a -year. The "Otago Daily Times " also comes in for a severe drubbing re its criticism of Mr J. C. Brown's appointment as a member qf the Otago Land Board. ' • -,
