TRINITY CHURCH GUILD.

The Trinity Chnrch Ladies' Guild held its annual sale of work yesterday. There was i Very large attendance in the evening. Much taste was displayed in getting up the articles for the sale, a great number of which were conspicuous for their excellently artistic crewel work. The stalls were neatly laid out, and displayed cushions, cosies, antimacassars, bookshelf borders, tennis hats, &c, to full advantage. The refreshment stall, presided over by Mesdames Beaumont and H. P. Thompson, is a new feature in these annual sales, and was very inviting-looking. The Christmas-tree, in charge of Mesdames Revel 1 and Blair, was decked with toys for the children, who got their prizes by a species of lottery. The stall on the right hand was in charge of Misses Pettit and Smith ; that on the left by Mrs Herbert and Misses Smith (2). The Guild was started in 1881 by two or three ladies of Trinity Church. Capital for the purchase of material was advanced by some gentlemen — Mr Herbert and the Archdeacon amongst the number — to whom the money was repaid from the money obtained by the sale of goods. During the first year, £115 profit was realised by private Bale over and above paying for material used ; the second year it was decided to adopt the system of holding a public sale, and the profits resulting amounted to £108 ; last year the sale realised £120, also clear profit, making a total profit from the labors of the members of about £350. The value of the goods sold up to the present is probably about £500, which comprises the profit quoted above and in addition the amounts paid for material. The- present members of the guild are Mesdamea Herbert, Jas. Smith, Beaumont, H. P. Thompson, John Smith, Barron, and Revell, and Misses Smith and Pettit. The year before last £150 was devoted from the funds to the erection of the school building, and a chandelier was procured for the room ; last year £70 was given to the parish and £35 was spent on the chancel of the Church. The ladies who constitute the guild meet every Wednesday at Trinity schoolroom from half past two to six o'clock, but an inspection, of. the work by anyone acquainted with* the same will at once show that the work done could not all be done in the working hours of the guild. A number of the articles have been completed by the ladies in their own leisure hours.
