PUBLIC MEETING AT BLUE SPUR.
CEMENT CRUSHING MACHINERY. Pursuant to announcement a meeting of persons interested in procuringimproved cement-crushing machinery was held in Beaton's Assembly Rooms, Bine Spur, on Monday evening. There were about thirty persons present, all of whom were either interested as shareholders or workmen in the Blue Spur claims. Mr Gilbert Ralston was called upon to preside, and Mr John Uren was appointed Secretary pro ton.
Mr J. M'Hattie said that he understood the meeting was called to discuss the advisability of making application to Government for a subsidy towards a cement-onsher that would put through a larger quantity of cement than can be done with the present appliances. Before asking for assistance, something definifca should be arranged ; for they would require to select some kind of machinery and submit an estimate of its probable cost. He asked that the conveners of the meeting (Messrs Campbell and Lawson) state what they purposed doing. Mr J. Campbell remarked that he had nothing definite to lay before them, but the meeting wascalled to provoke discussion and ascertain if something definite could not be arrived at.
