MANUKA CREEK.

The annual statutory meeting of householders for the election of a Committee for the Manuka Creek school district was held on Monday evening last, and, notwithstanding the very inclement state of the weather, nearly the whole of the householders in the district put in an appearance. Mr James Pettigrew was voted to the chair, and, after stating the object of the meeting, called upon The Secretary (Mr Adam M'Corkindale) to read the minutes of last anuual meeting, which were duly confirmed.

The Secretary next read the annual report, from which the following excerpts are taken : — During the year 19 meetings were held, the average attendance at each meeting being; s|. This number of meetings, though considerably in excess of the usual, was found necessary, partly owing to the special meetings called for the purpose of considering; letters from the Education Board re Mr Craig's removal, and partly about the extension of the school boundaries and arranging about the children's picnic. After Mr Craig's removal Mr J. Pettigrew was elected on the Committee as Chairman for the remainder of the year. The amount of money received by tbe Committee for the year was £23 53 6d, and the amount expended £16 la Id, leaving a credit of £7 4a 5d. — Mr M'Duff having received another appointment, Mr R. M. Beattie was appointed teacher in his place. Mr Craig asked if the Committee had no balance-sheet to submit to the meeting.—The Clerk then read an abstract of the accounts from the cash-book, and stated that, owing to an omission of some cash which the Treasurer held not being posted up, the auditor would not certify to the correctness of same. — After a few questions, put by Mr Craig with reference to the balance of £7 4s 5d in hand, the Chairman stated that there was a liability for fencing the glebe, particulars of which had not come in, which would amount to about £8 10a, so that actually the new Committee would commence the year with a debt of some 255, instead of the balanca as shown in the report.

On the motion of Mr Alex. M'Corkindale, seconded by Mr T. Henderson, the report and balance-sheet as read were received.

A vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring Committee. The election of the new Committee was then proceeded with. There were nine candidates nominated, the ballot resulting in favor of— R. Craig (42 votes), T. Henderson (21), W. H. Miller (15), Wm. Crozier (15), P. Donald (8), Adam M'Corkindale (5), and Jas. Pettigrew (5.) Messrs R. M. Beattie and T. Henderson acted as scrutineers. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
